its not a riv, but it still gives you an idea of the shade. this is with 20% all around, i live in MN. if you ever live in MN, dont waste your time or money on tint unless its legal or unless you have a truck. after this picture i was supposed to take it all off but got away with taking just the front off.
these next pictures are 35% walmart tint on the front, and then everything on the back is the same except i put 1 layer of the 35% over the 20% on the rear windows and 2 layers of the 35% over the 20% on the rear 1/4 windows. this also had to be removed to avoid a hefty fine, the only tint remaining on my car is the rear 1/4 windows and rear windshield.

Shawn, robotennis61: right click on his photo, left click on "Save photo as". and put it in "My Documents". It'll wind up under "My Pictures". You can then enlarge it to page size.

is there an official window tint thread somewhere here on the forums? if so can someone please direct me with a link please..
last time i did a search, i found a couple threads here and there. but nothing solely of showcasing everyone's tint. unless i may have missed it.
if not, can you please post up pics of your Riv with tint and state the %
i actually was aware of this thread, but this thread is old and is more of a faq and info. rather than posting pics. thats why i made the thread in the showcase forum. i was asking if there was already a thread like THAT already somewhere out there

This is now THAT thread. If you want to post pics of window tint, this is the place. If you want to showcase an entire car, Showroom is the place.
Yes, the thread is old, but window tint technology hasn't changed much in the last 3 years as I'm aware. No harm in keeping it together. Thx.
I had a weird idea today and I thought I'd put it out there to see what everyone thinks. Has everyone heard of transition lenses? That's the auto-tinting film they put on glasses. Are there any reasons it can't be used on a car? I'm sure cost would be an issue, it costs over $50 to put it on two tiny lenses for your eyes, but can anyone come up with another reason why it wouldn't work? I don't know how delicate the stuff is or if there is a special way to apply it, but the only real downside I can think of would be the odd look of having half the windows tinted in the morning or later evening as it only works with direct sunlight. It blocks uv rays so its good for the eyes too. I guess local laws would dictate its use but is it possible? Feel free to shoot holes in my idea.

It is possible, and has been done on some high-end cars, such as Maybach. It's called "smart glass", and can even be electronically controlled. See vid of install in Cadillac:
I don't know if it's the same technology used for eye wear, but it does the same thing. I do believe it's an expensive option for now, but I think it will become more and more common on newer vehicles.

Alright, well, I took a shot at tinting my windows today... and it's alright at best...
I haven't done this since I was in high school or possibly college many moons ago. I started with a ready made (precut) kit from ebay. The vendor is NuSolis if anyone cares. I only paid $15 dollars or so for the film kit and I was very pleased with the quality. It's a 20% kit, but they offer other shades as well as custom mixing 50% in the rear 70% up front etc, to keep you legal.
I wanted to give this a shot as I haven't done it in a long time, and I remember the trimming portion being such a pain in the butt. So the kit eliminated that part of the job for me. (Almost.)
I started with the passenger door and lubed everything up with soapy water, and it went pretty well accept for one area near the top that didn't get enough lube and I accidentally creased it while squeeging. Opps. Spent the next 45 minutes fighting "fingers" that kept creeping in from the bottom edge. Not bad for my first attempt, but not perfect. If this was a show car, I'd redo it.
Next was the driver's door, and I wanted to try something I never did before, which was shrinking the film to the exterior of the window prior to removing the carrier film. A few weeks ago I watched some youtube videos that showed this process, and the guy soaped up his outter window with a bounce fabric softner sheet and water. I did the same and shrunk the film with my heat gun. This window came out perfect! After I removed the transfer film, I was done with that window in about 10 minutes.
Next came the passenger side quarter window. NuSolis cut the film to fit the entire window even the part that is darn near sealed to the glass. I didn't use the bounce sheet on this one and shrunk it to the outside window. I got a little to eager and over shrunk the rear most part of the window. My intent was to fit the film under the seal, but that wasn't going to happen once I got the film on the window. I trimmed the film to meet the edge of the seal, and it looks okay. The bottom of the B pillar ripped as I was finishing the trim. In hindsight, if I would have used an exacto knife, it would have been able to manuever better than my razor blade and I probably wouldn't have ripped it. The rip is tiny (less that 1/2") and I mated the pieces together so you really can't tell from the outside.
The last piece I attempted tonight was the top of the rear window. (They send it in 2 pieces) I did shrink it, but FORGOT to use the bounce sheet. While I was shrinking the film I was squeeging the wrinkles out and put about 4 creases in the rear window. When I went to install it, it went great, except for fighting those damn creases I put in it.
Tomorrow I'll finish the job after work, but I will definitely learn from my mistakes. And at only $15 for film (with a lifetime warranty) I may order another set to repair the ones I screwed up. I'll have to see how it looks once it has cured and set up for a few days.
If you're gonna shrink your film, (WHICH YOU NEED TO DO) use the bounce fabric softner sheets!

Hey guys! Charlie here! Got my tint appointment for Friday and I can't wait to see the transformation! I am considering doing %20 all around. I see so many cars here in Toledo everyday with super dark, murderer lurks inside, window tint so I don't see much of a problem with going that dark. I was thinking about %20 in the back and %35 in the front but we will see. Pictures will be up when I get em!

I am working on the interior now too transforming the silver mist grey to all dark colors. I am going for space ship cockpit feeling when inside my Riviera. Tint will help give that space feel, i'm sure.
When I am at the shop I will see how 35% and 20% look against the windows and decide then. Chris, did you do %35 all around? Do you have pictures around here?

Your car is gonna look sooooo good with those windows tinted and I'm glad to hear you're getting it done professionally rather than attempting to do it yourself. I highly recommend that anyone just wait until they can save up the $$$ to have it done by the pros.
In regards to the %...I had all my windows done in 30%. I also had a strip done on the upper part of the windshield and you might want to consider that also. It really cuts down on the glare. You're also gonna notice how much cooler your car is in the hot summer months.
I have pics of my tint in the Showroom.
Looking forward to seeing pics of your finished tint job.

I did do all around and click on my Rivieras year and name on my sig. Pictures are there. I did have mine done professionally. Doing them yourself was to much of a pain.

Not all tint shops are created equal. I went to one in BPort, CT for the Riv and it came out like shit. Had it redone by another shop down the road. Lesson learned. 20% all around.. all the time.
