Just curious, but, did they see it or smell it?

My Sig is with the 35% I don't smoke in my car, nor do I ever have anything on me. I was merely a statistical traffic stop. There were 4 other cars right around me, doing exactly the speed limit (35 mph). The cop was sitting in a parking lot with his headlights on. We all went by, and it wasn't until about 1/4 mile up that he flew up on me and lit me up. He said that he specifically pulled me over because of the tints (which he saw me through because I had to signal to him that the window didn't work). Because it was 3am, he searched me, and the car. My friend, whose house I just left, rolled me one to take home. It was in my cigarette pack. 1st offense, no points, no record. It cost me almost $1200 for the doob, $125 to "sign up" for probation, and $15 every time I got called to drop (12 months). While I was on probation, I acquired my Medical Card, and they allowed me to drop dirty after that, but I still had to show up and pay..... They never charged me or gave me a ticket for the tints.

Luck can be a lil bitch sometimes!
Does your card protect you in your Riv if you are caught in possession? What if your eyes are frosted?

Yeah, a 31 year old kid (at the time) - charlieRobinson wrote:

I can legally have 2-1/2 ozs in my possession at all times. It has to be in bulk though. No roaches, no paraphernalia, no divided up bags, no smoked anything. The card basically "protects" me so that I can transport it from A to B. As far as at home, I can have whatever I want.

| No tint on windshield as it is illegal here in Ontario as well as many states. Windshield may look dark due to both reflection and you are looking through the windshield to the tinted side windows. Ontario not specfic on window tint percentage. Law states more or less law enforcement must be able to identify # of occupants in the auto. Had both my autos tinted at a specialty shop that works on many high end autos and it was suggested 35% because non of his clients over the last 15 years have been cited for too much tint. I have been in other autos with a darker tint, and its just me, I found any tint darker than 35% makes night driving less safe when changing lanes. Always best to check you state laws on window tint restrictions. Here is a fast link that might help: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/ | |

| Subject: Leaving Windows Partially Open in Summer Fri Jun 05, 2015 11:14 pm | |
| What tips can anyone provide me concerning keeping the interior cool during summer months when the Riv is parked outside. I don't like the Riv's interior getting that hot..can't be good for the interior. Mine is a daily driver to/from work and is parked outside. The sun heats up the interior pretty good. I don't have access to covered parking or any shade trees around. I have a window shade and use it which helps some. I would really like to leave the windows left partially open to a allow ventilation to help keep the interior cool but I'm afraid of summer showers getting the interior wet. The frameless window doesn't lend itself to a vent shade product.
What do you guys do to mitigate this problem?
Any advice/help appreciated.

| Have the windows tinted. No joke. I have 35% tint all the way around, and it's enough to lower the Interior temp quite a bit. Don't get me wrong, it still gets hot, but not "burn your ass" leather hot. It definitely took away the sting. | |

| tinting also helps protects your interior and your skin from UV damage.
and it's a proven fact that every car looks better with window tinting.
just do it. | |

| Funny thing was I just put the Riv back on the road yesterday and had a thought like this. The car was sitting in the direct sunlight in 80° heat but when I got in it was far cooler than I was expecting after being used to driving my Grand Marquis. The riv has 20% tints. So another vote for tints! Rivs look great with tints too! Your window shade and tints should protect the interior plenty. If you want to be able to get into a cool car everyday the only real solution would be an automatic start so the AC can get a little headstart. Or invent a "Rainsense" type of thing to roll up your windows when it starts raining. Im sure you'd have plenty of buyers lined up | |

| Thanks for the feedback.
I don't have any vehicles with any tint on the windows...never thought of that...and besides it would look cool.
What about laws..any laws against what amount or kind of tint you can apply?
How much tint should I go for..somebody mentioned 35%.
What does 35% look like compared to 25%?...how do you tell the difference?...is this measured from top of window to bottom as a % coverage factor?

| I'm not sure what your State laws are, but here in Michigan, you CANNOT have any tint whatsoever on the front windows. You can black-out the rear windows legally, just not the front. I had to sign a waiver when I had the whole car done. I went with 35% all the way around (except the windshield) because of the laws here. During the day, you can see in the car no problem, but at night with all the windows up, they look blacked out unless you're 2 feet from the car. 20% tint is quite dark, and takes awhile to get used to. I've thought about 20%, but it makes vision out the rear window a bit tough at night. Another plus for tints, is that it helps on the eyes when the moron behind you is driving with their brights on "Limo" tint is 5% FYI. Depending on your city/state police, they'll probably leave you alone. They have bigger problems than a guy in a Riv with some tinted windows. I've only gotten pulled over once, and that was at 3:30am in a city that's known for having nothing else to do but write petty tickets. The officer actually told me he pulled me over because he couldn't see me when I passed him, yet he saw me just fine when he approached my car (the window switch wasn't working at that time). I tint every car I own..... | |

| Just to clarify for you. The window tint is rated by the percentage of light it lets pass through. 20% is like the back windows of an SUV. They are pretty dark and Ive had a couple cops mention the tints being illegal to me but never gotten a ticket for them. If you google search pictures of different shades of tint you can get an idea of how dark each shade would be. 5%, 20%, 35% and 50% are the most common shades. I know alot of people who will go darker on the rear windows than the front door windows and it looks fine but would probably look a little funny on a 2 door without a frame around the door window like the riv. I know North Carolina has no tint restrictions so I would search your state or county laws on them. I have 20s that look dark even for 20s and Ive never been pulled over for them. Hope this helps! | |

| Lol, it's not a proven fact that every car looks better with window tinting, but I agree it helps with the heat. I have tint in my other car (black interior) and makes a big difference. My Riv is not tinted and using a metallic sun shade and cracking the sunroof works well to keep it reasonably cool. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
