| In case you wanted to do the coupler change without removing the SC and the injectors, you can do the job with it on the engine. I did this on my 95 short snout SC and it is an alternatve way of leaving the high pressure gasoline system alone. Remove the alt, belts, tensioners, heater hoses, power steering pump, then the bolts holding the aluminum plate and pull it to the side. There is a bolt on the bottom hooked to a soft bracket that will yield. With these items out of the way, the snout is accessible. There are a couple of odd sized "O" rings on the metal heater hose fittings that you might have to get from GM. I reused mine. I used an anerobic sealer from autozone for the seal on the snout. By the way, If you ever have to replace the water pump on the 95, this same plate will have to be removed (pulled aside) along with the motor mount. Might want to do both of these at the same time if you have an old water pump. https://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t115/graymodeler/SC%20coupler%20changeout/

| Great info, Greg! I thought it was odd that only Series II engines (gen III blowers) could get away with snout removal while leaving the rest of the blower attached to the engine. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| so i went to orlando to meet with matt so he could change my coupler for me...pushed the alternator back...there was a mount right in front of the snout. we had ZERO access to one of the bolts. is it possible to just take a 95 snout off? or must the entire SC come off? | |

| It might be easier to lift up the whole S/C, I know on the S2 you have to drain coolant to remove that alternator bracket. There aren't that many bolts holding the supercharger down once everything else is out of the way. | |

| I still find taking the whole SC off is easier for the m62. Take out all the bolts, a bit at the TB, and lift it up slightly, then slide it towards the TB out of the ALT braket. _________________ | |

| if you've done it before? a couple of hours, ish, removing the SC is the easy part, the time is taken in removing the fuel rails and various vaccum lines, and stuff near the TB... _________________ | |

| I would Its actually one of those tasks that seems harder at first then it really is. Once you've done it once it just becomes "oh, sure, I'll just pop off that supercharger..." _________________ | |

| again, sorry i couldnt get the coupler changed out for you scotty. i didnt want you to be stranded at my house if something happened while removing the s/c housing..like no gaskets at the local store, broken injector connector, or vac line. i just assumed it was easy like on the m90...i should have done more research. btw, i'll take a belt change on a series 2 ANY day, over trying to get the tensioner bracket off on a series 1. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Well, this is an excellent write-up, and this helped me diagnose what I believe is wrong with mine. My SC makes a rough, grating sound at idle, and I was told the SC was going bad. However, another person familiar with them said its not the SC, but the necessary oil changes in it, and the coupler and bearings need raplacing. I had a spare SC that came off my old SC motor that I sold for $75 too and the guy who bought it said he rebuilds them and replaces the bearings in them. Maybe Ill give that a try... but theres no way in hell Im doing this myself. This looks like a recipes for disaster if I tried it. | |

| Holy crap guys, today I think my coupler went over the edge. I was following my dad to take his Forester to the dealer for an oil change, and when I came to a stoplight the clattering noise completely disappeared. As I drove the noise started going on and off, sounding really really bad...then I smelled something. This smell was akin to a mix of nasty feet and sandals, salt & vinegar potato chips, and NYC street garbage smells all put together and left to bake in an oven during the self-clean process. I knew right away what I was smelling, and luckily it was about a half mile from the Subie dealer. I popped the hood, and again luckily I didn't see any leaks or anything that looked like oil...no steam no smoke no nothing, but oh my god the smell was so powerful. I'm not driving the car anymore, not until it gets fixed. I've decided to find a mechanic around here because my dad says he knows of one who's worked on superchargers a lot and he'll give him a call. No more dealer BS about this being a non-servicable unit...if I had the tools and a garage I would have done it months ago. God that smell is horrible. 2 bottles for a full oil change, right? | |

| Just get the Intense kit. It includes the coupler, the correct amount of fluid and the proper sealant for the snout flange. I believe the whole kit is $50.00. That way you are providing the mechanic with everything he needs to do the job correctly. There will be no excuses. | I have the coupler, red gasket maker, AND a Fel-Pro upper intake manifold plenum gasket to replace the 14 year old one on there now. I'll have to go to the dealer and buy 2 bottles of oil though. | |

Unless I'm totally confused, an SC engine doesn't have an upper intake plenum, That is where the supercharger is. Do you mean lower intake gasket for the LIM.?? If you have an Upper Plenum Gasket you have the wrong parts for your vehicle. | |

| No, it's the right gasket. There were 3 different ones, one for Series II N/A, Series I S/C, and Series II S/C. I have the right gasket, whichever one sits right under the supercharger that gets exposed when it comes off the engine. | |

| If your removing the SC to remove the snout and then the coupler, all you will need for gaskets is the Supercharger gasket and fuel injector O-Rings as the fuel injector rail has to be removed along with the injectors. It's good practice to replace O-Rings when they have been removed. Your supercharger gasket should also have 2 o-rings that seal coolant. They are installed on top of the LIM, between it and the SC, along with the SC gasket.
