FAQ: Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: FAQ: Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge   FAQ: Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge - Page 5 EmptyFri Jan 04, 2013 8:57 am

Evan, no sorry only OBDII cars ('96+).

Charlie, the main difference is the Aeroforce is a gauge, so it's smaller and can be mounted as part of your dash, rather than using a smart phone type device. It can display more than two parameters, just not more than two at one time. However it can monitor ALL parameters, triggering alarms, so you really don't need to see so many. Also, 2 or 3 gauges can be used together to display 4 or 6 parameters in about the same space needed for a smartphone or mini tablet.

Is there anyway to 'split' the OBD-II interface to use multiple I/O devices?

Yes. I believe Aeroforce sells the splitter adapters for running multiple gauges: http://aeroforcetech.com/accessories.html

What year riv? If it's 96-97, you gotta hook up that extra switch lead and remove the jumper.

Mine works fine in my '98 just hooked up to OBDII port. I didn't need to wire the extra hot lead.

EDIT: correction, I used the red lead!

PostSubject: Re: FAQ: Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge   FAQ: Aeroforce Interceptor Scan Gauge - Page 5 EmptyThu Sep 19, 2013 4:23 pm

Sorry, I think I led you wrong. Looking at pics of my install, there is a 3rd wire, I think it goes to accessory power. Make sure you have a good connection at the fuse box.

From Aeroforce user manual:

"5. Connect 3 wire mini connector power. If required*, connect separate red
power wire, which exits the middle of the 3 wire mini cable as shown in figure 1,
to a switched 12v line or circuit in the vehicle. These circuits are commonly
known as “accessory” circuits because they are only “hot” when the ignition is
turned on. A recommended way of doing this step is to use a product called an
“Add a Circuit”, made by Littelfuse, available at most car parts outlets. These
kits, which sell for under $10, allow you to easily use an existing circuit in the
fuse block to power an add-on accessory such as the Interceptor without the need 4
to cut or splice any wires. The use of this kit is highly recommended, as most of
the problems with the gauge can be traced to a poor selection of a 12v wire, or
poor connection. If the gauge randomly turns off and on while driving, 90% of
the time it is a poor connection to 12v or an improper circuit was tapped into,
such as a signal wire to the instrument panel.

*This power wire is not needed on all vehicles, if your cable has this separate red
wire in the center of the 3 wire mini connector it needs to be connected as
described above. Most GM vehicles made through 2006 require this connection."

I think cig lighter is on all the time - no good. I'd route it to the fuse box and tap into a switched accessory - anything that comes on when you turn the key to "on".

It's not really that bad. Open your driver door, carefully pop open the fuse panel cover at the end of the dash. You'll see a map with each fuse's location. Pick RADIO and use one of these to tap in.

I always do this lol, i just saw that too, or the bussman one lol, sometimes i scare myself thanks

Ok so i got the littelfuse, ran some wire to the gauge, i got that extra 3 wire thing that im supposed to use the red wire to connect right? So, instructions say when using another power source to remove the red connection from the back of the gauge... what the hell is supposed to go there?!??

Hey Daryl,

I used that Add-a-Circuit thing that Aaron posted, and I used my radio fuse location as he also stated. Works great for me!

And as for the connection you remove from the back of the gauge, I think you mean the jumper? When using an external power source like we all have to, that jumper is just removed and nothing goes in it's place. The new fuse and wiring you added takes the place of it, just in another location.

Hope that helps a little smile

Fortunately, this is a very easy thing. Though to be fair, my particular directions I got with my Aeroforce were slightly confusing too. But yes, that's all you have to do! Enjoy the gauge, it's really handy.
