I removed the side moldings and hope to do a good job filling in the gap.I dont have the metal skills to weld in a steel panel, but I bonded a thick piece of aluminium into the cavity left by the molding.just a question of carefully filling the gaps.I'll do all the work myself.
Robo, did you consider the weight of the aluminium that you sealed into your door? Maybe a lighter alternative exists for shaving the doors? - robotennis61 wrote:

LOL that was enough to answer my question. Thank you. - ghpcnm wrote:

| Alu is very light VS steel or bondo. The reason I used alu channel was to fill the gap left by the moldings so as to not use a ton of bondo.hate that. I wanted to weld formed steel sheet in place, but I dont have the metal working tools or a low enough heat setting on my wire feed welder or the skilz! Cant afford to hire someone to do it so..it's the next best thing.Time will tell if I made a good choice in terms of durability. And the colors will go on alot darker than in the pics.I will see about mixing some HOK Pagan Gold in the galaxy gray to set off the green or a little black.I want the car to be pretty dark. But the Green is a Kandy basecoat, meaning its not a true kandy, big bucks!,but as close as HOK can make it to a true kandy. | |

| Sorry if I missed it but what material are you using to rebuild around the aluminum? | |

| the bondo really weights more than the aluminum? I know aluminum is light but i expected the bondo to weight less. | |

| well I was really close at one point $ wise to buying a Sqrivi bumper set. But the $ alas had to go elsewhere. so Ive come up with an idea to make it happen for less.still love the Sqrivi set but out of my price range for now. I dont know for sure if I can make this work, but im gonna try. the plan is to fill the inside of the bumper with 2 part expanding foam, $30 for a 4 lb kit. pour it into the upturned bumper.when cured I will then take a sander to it and sculpt the bumper to my taste.after I got it where I want it,ill glass it all in. lets see what happens.pass or fail,Ill learn a thing or 2 and wont be out much. heres a few pics to show | |

| lol robo... if it works out ill pay you to do 2 sets for me lol
I was thinking you know thethe negative space in the lower front lip I'd like that to be enlarged by shaving some of the lower part of the front bumper but keeping the oval shape so it matches the grill it is kinda hard to work out in my head but I think... when I look at the front of a riv I can see what I want done maybe I should just draw it.... | |
