| Thanks, Ben, for explaining about the sound - you are right I missed your comment.
I like the way the stock exhaust burbles at idle and is quiet at cruise. I was thninking that an exhaust that roars on hard acceleration but is quiet otherwise would be fun - but it also is definitely not a priority. Something like a s/s cherrybomb style resonator and a pair of rear mufflers that use baffles rather than fiberglas to cancel out sounds - if done right there's no restriction problem but...

| I don't know... it was probably $100 or something. They had to cut off the old tips and weld the new ones on, plus straighten my pipe.
So I'm not sure. | |

| You got my vote!
More interesting, however, is that your Riv. has a landau top! Haven't seen one of those... neat! | |

| I'm thinking about changing out my yucky, black tips for something a little shinier. I was wondering, can the stock ones be removed easily, what diameter am I looking for, and can a replacement simply bolted- or clamped-on? I'm liking these magnaflow tips, they're cut at a 45* angle, with a 2.5" inlet and 3.0" outlet. Click the picture for the amazon.com page. They're also available with a 2.25" inlet and 3.5" outlet here: LINK And 2.25" inlet with 3.0" outlet here: They're all 18 inches long, by the way. | |

| 1 3/4 inch i believe. the 18" tips will stick out really far unless you have the mufflers moved back or you get new ones. if you look at the stock tail pipes, they are kind of S shaped in order to make the tips stick out straight. there isnt much straight pipe directly behind the stock tips to bolt up an 18" tip to w/out it sticking out from the bumper 12"+. you may be able to make the 2.25" bolt up to the stock pipes. depends on how the clamp is. if they are the weld on kind, you may need to have the exhaust shop bend up some new tail pipes to weld them to. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Okay, so those are out of the question. Would 2.25" inlet tips work, like these? How about a 2.25" clamp, would that be too wide to fit properly? Says some of them have to be welded on, any idea what that would cost? Also, how would I get the original tips off, should I let the shop that's gonna weld the new ones on take care of that? LINK Those are still a little more than 7" long. I also found these which are only 4.5" long. | |

| the shop will take the old ones off. i dont know how much it would cost, but if the 2.25 fits over the stock pipes and the guy is able to get a weld on the 2 to hold, then it shouldn't cost much at all. when i had mine done, i had 3 tips and i gave the shop one of the tips in exchange for welding the new ones on. i told them it was worht ~$50. i also had new pipes made up to go from the mufflers to the tips. i think i used 2" pipe. and i had them mandrel bent for a case of beer _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Okay, thanks! I'll call around with the local shops for pricing, although I can't think of anywhere like that around here. | |
